Anything else?

Yes, Poshmark Ambassadors are expected fulfill a few obligations, but they’re nothing hard. Basically, it comes down to being a good user of Poshmark and having positive moments when interacting with other users (and also stay within their legal rules).

Here’s what you need to do to keep being a Poshmark Ambassador:

  • Maintain an active closet – Basically, you need to stay around 50 active listings. I say “around” because, right after achieving Poshmark Ambassador, there was about a week or so that I had only 48 active listings after selling a few items and I kept my Poshmark Ambassador status even though it was under 50 active listings.
  • Participate in the Poshmark community – It wouldn’t be any good for Poshmark for you to come into the app only when you upload or sell your items, so this expectation makes sense. It comes down to sharing items from other users which is pretty easy to do, especially if you participate in Posh Parties.
  • Provide great customer service – Though this expectation felt the heaviest, it’s not a difficult one to fulfill. To me, it means being upfront about item flaws, responding to comments in a timely manner, and basically being helpful to any new Poshers.
  • Be in good standing with their Community Guidelines and Terms of Service – And the last expectation is all about staying legal! We all saw it coming. If you haven’t read these two, at least take a quick skim so you can make sure you’re following Poshmark rules.

A quick comment about “Great Customer Service”

I’ve seen several posts around the internet that say you should provide extra “gifts” when shipping your item as a way to provide good customer service.

However, if the person didn’t order the extra “gifts”, this creates unrealistic expectations for all Poshmark sellers, can be tricky territory for those with allergies, and sets a focus on the wrong things for “great customer service”.

Why should I become a Poshmark Ambassador?

I remember reading the perks about becoming a Poshmark Ambassador and thinking it wasn’t for me. I had just recently opened my Poshmark account and wasn’t looking to do anything beyond sell a handful of pieces from my closet.

After being on Poshmark for a bit, I quickly noticed that as I added listings to my closet and as I sold items from my closet, there were tasks to the Poshmark Ambassador that were ticking off! As someone who thrives on checking things off, I looked into Poshmark Ambassador again and decided it would be a fun goal to work towards, even if the incentives didn’t make sense to me yet. So I began sharing more of my own items as well as other Poshmark users’ items, and slowly added more listings to my closet over time.

As I moved through the Poshmark Ambassador goals, I realized that my own following and sales were increasing! Now, I don’t want to make it seem like I was selling all of my items immediately or that my follower count was growing exponentially (because they weren’t) but I did notice that my shares from other users were more consistent and that my items were getting a few more likes than usual.

Before we keep talking about whether it’s worth it, let’s see what Poshmark says you’ll get from becoming a Poshmark Ambassador.

  • Get recommended to new Poshers
  • Receive an exclusive newsletter
  • Unlock access to fun programs and opportunities

At first glance, these all sound like amazing perks to being a Poshmark Ambassador, right? The reality can be quite different.

Getting recommended to new Poshmark users is one of my favorite things because it means that the audience that receives my closet shares will get bigger without too much effort from me. In fact, I’ve gained an additional (almost) 1,000 followers since becoming a Posh Ambassador.

However, in that same time, I haven’t made a single sale to any of these new followers. When I check some of these accounts, many haven’t even created a full profile, which signals to me that they’re just checking things out and exploring the app, but probably not committed to buying anything. Or they are looking to buy but it’s a very specific item, after which they’ll leave the app.

Though you might get lucky and happen to catch someone’s attention with some of your items, it’s more lightly that you won’t be able to convince these new Poshers to buy from your closet since they’re such new users.

Receive an exclusive Poshmark Ambassador newsletter

Receiving the exclusive newsletter is such a laughable perk, especially since I haven’t gotten one since receiving Poshmark Ambassador. If you have a different opinion, please let me know in the comments because I haven’t gotten anything exclusive.

As Ariana Grande says, thank you, next.

Unlock fun programs & opportunities as a Poshmark Ambassador

Unlocking access to fun programs and opportunities is probably the best perk. And it still doesn’t have much, but it does have one new thing that I’m interested to see how it will play out.

For a while, the “fun programs and opportunities” meant hosting a Posh N Sip event and hosting Posh parties. To me, Posh N Sip events felt very much like a “exposure as payment” type of thing because the event descriptions tended to be so vague and they didn’t seem to provide any concrete help. Full disclosure, I’ve never attended a Posh N Sip event because they were in-person events that weren’t near me. However, with the coronavirus pandemic, these events have switched to a virtual format so maybe I’ll attend one soon and see if my opinion changes.

Hosting Posh Parties, Posh N Sip

Hosting Posh Parties also seems very… umm… not incentive-y. Here’s why:

Hosting a Posh Party is extra work that you aren’t getting paid for. It seems like another “exposure as payment”. I also read a blog post that explained the process for hosting Posh Parties, and apparently the line is forever long, which just decreases from this incentive. If I ever get the chance to host one, I’ll update this with my experience. Read Poshmark’s information about Posh Parties here.

What is Posh Affiliate?

Lastly, let’s talk about Posh Affiliate. This one is new; it looks like it rolled out in either late 2019 or 2020 but I didn’t learn about it until early 2021. The great thing about becoming a Poshmark Ambassador means you can apply to be a Posh Affiliate without having to have a social media account with at least 5,000 followers. So if you’re looking to make extra money, Posh Affiliate could be something to implement with your closet if you’re active on other social media channels. And you would actually get paid for this, unlike the above activities (hosting Posh N Sip and Posh Parties). Learn more about Posh Affiliate here.

Is becoming a Poshmark Ambassador worth it?

Okay, so we’ve covered the steps to becoming a Poshmark Ambassador and the perks that are associated with it. Now, it’s time to decide if it’s worth it to you.

For me, it wasn’t an active goal until I was close to becoming a Poshmark Ambassador and that was when I became more focused on increasing my listings and sharing more often. And while I’m thankful for the higher follower account, I haven’t seen a huge change in my closet. I will be exploring the Poshmark Affiliate opportunities now that I have access to it, and see how that goes.

Besides these items, becoming a Poshmark Ambassador hasn’t changed much for my closet. For me, It was more about checking off a goal, especially while being stuck at home, than really expecting a huge change.

If you’re working towards becoming a reseller or looking to become a boutique seller on Poshmark, then Poshmark Ambassador might be a worthy goal and might pay off since you would be spending lots of time on the app. Other than that, I think it’s really up to you to decide if you want to focus on this goal or if there’s a different goal to work towards.
